Modelling
the Clinical Processes of Prescribing
(MCPOP)
project
Project team members: Professor Teng
Liaw, Elizabeth Deveny, Professor Iain Morrison,
MCPOP
Project outline:
The
MCPOP project seeks to build on the work already started by the NPS, GPCG, MediConnect
and HealthConnect, by focusing on clinical decision support around the
prescribing process, in the first instance, and its representation within the
General Practice Data Model and Core Data Set (GPDMCDS).
There
are three broad aims for this project. These are:
1. Elucidate
a clinical model for decision-making in the prescribing process. Its
robustness will be tested and ensured in a variety of clinical settings, such
as hospital, general practice and outreach (eg., nursing homes, Royal District
Nursing Service), and address the needs of all those health professionals
involved with prescribing practice, e.g. nurses, pharmacists and medical
practitioners.
2. Subsequently
undertake a critical review of the GPDMCDS in the areas of prescribing and
decision support, identifying where additional enhancements are necessary.
3. Using
the clinical model developed in 1, and the review of GPDMCDS and enhancements
developed in 2, we will develop an information model of decision support within
prescribing with appropriate input, logic and outputs.
